JIMMY YOUNG aka “THE REAL JIMMY YOUNG” was born and raised in Mount Vernon, N.Y.—JIMMY started his musical journey as an R&B singer in the early 80’s. He released his first single entitled “TIMES ARE TIGHT” IN 1983. The song was a “TOP 20” dance hit in the U.K. It climbed up to number 13 on the RECORD MIRROR magazine Dance Chart. —Jimmy Young is responsible for directly assisting the careers of numerous artists, including Salt N PEPA, Kid N PLAY, DANA DANE, KWAME and SWEET TEE.
Jimmy Young was also the manager of the Bayside Sound Recording studio.in Queens NY. Jimmy has had the opportunity to produce and work with such artists as Whodini, Full Force, Lisa Lisa & Cult jam, UTFO, Chubb Rock, Snow, The Bad Boys, Shannon and Anthrax. Jimmy Young was called upon to work with the legendary baseball super star Darryl Strawberry. The song entitled “Chocolate Strawberry” produced by Kangol Kid, Richie Rich and Michelle Strawberry featuring UTFO and Whistle and The Real Jimmy Young on background vocals and assistant engineer. The single was released on Strawesome Records.
JIMMY has worked with legendary talents including Songwriter/Producer and (former partner to BERRY GORDY) ROQUEL “BILLY” DAVIS. Jimmy then collaborated with Full Force on albums by James Brown and LaToya Jackson and many others over the years.
Jimmy Young’s music career also included hosting his own radio show on Gotham radio in NY, entitled The History of R&B music where he interviewed many legendary artists. He also hosted music video shows in Queens and Manhattan on public access.
In 2011, Jimmy Young worked with Ben Stiller, Te’a Leoni and director Brett Ratner on the movie Tower Heist.
It is now 2020, Jimmy Young has returned to the music scene with an all-star team and is ready for the re-launch of Strawesome Records. Our team is extremely excited, extremely proud and ready to bring a new flavor of music back to the music recording industry.
